Application of the education-exposure intervention to patients with early-stage kinesiophobia after placing a peripherally inserted central catheter

Abstract：Objective To explore the effects of education-exposure intervention on the degree of kinesiophobia,negative emotions,self-efficacy,medical coping styles and self-care ability in patients with early-stage kinesiophobia after peripherally inserted central catheter(PICC)placement.Methods A total of 45 PICC patients admitted from September to October 2023 were selected as the control group and 45 PICC catheterization patients admitted from November to December 2023 were selected as the observation group.Patients in the control group received routine PICC catheterization care,while those in the observation group received education-exposure intervention.The degree of kinesiophobia,negative emotions,self-efficacy,medical coping style and self-care ability of the two groups were compared before and 6 days after intervention.Results There were no significant differences in the degree of kinesiophobia,and scores of negative emotions,self-efficacy,medical coping style and self-care ability between the two groups before intervention(P＞0.05).After intervention,patients in the observation group had significantly higher scores in coping,self-efficacy and self-care compared to the control group,while the degree of kinesiophobia,levels of anxiety,depression,submission and avoidance showed opposite trends(P＜0.05).Conclusion The application of the education-exposure intervention in patients after PICC catheterization in cancer hospitals can significantly enhance their courage to face early-stage kinesiophobia,and reduce the submission and avoidance of the disease.It is conducive to reduce the degree of kinesiophobia and alleviate negative emotions,achieving an improvement in self-efficacy and self-care ability.
