Analysis of influencing factors for type 2 diabetes mellitus combined with cognitive dysfunction

Abstract：Objective To compare the different indices of type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)patients with cognitive impairment(CI)and without cognitive impairment(NCI),and to evaluate the risk factors for CI in T2DM patients,thus providing theoretical basis for the prevention and treatment of CI in T2DM patients.Methods A total of 93 T2DM patients hospitalized from May 2023 to February 2024 were selected and divided into two groups according to the Montreal Cognitive Scale(MoCA)score.There were 55 T2DM patients with CI(T2DM-CI group)and 38 T2DM patients without CI(T2DM-NCI group).General conditions and laboratory indicators were compared between groups.Risk factors for CI in T2DM patients were identified by Logistic regression.Results There were significant differences in the education level,metformin use and history of diabetic peripheral neuropathy between the two groups(all P＜0.05).Fasting plasma glucose(FPG),glycated hemoglobin(HbA1c),total cholesterol(TC),and triglycerides(TG)were significantly higher in the T2DM-CI group than those of the T2DM-NCI group(P＜0.05).Age,sex,height,weight,body mass index(BMI),waist circumference,systolic blood pressure(SBP),diastolic blood pressure(DBP),duration of diabetes,history of hypertension,smoking history,alcohol consumption history,high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C),low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C),serum creatinine(SCr),uric acid(UA),alanine aminotransferase(ALT),aspartate aminotransferase(AST),and glutamyl transpeptidase(GGT)were comparable between groups(P＞0.05).Conclusion HbA1c and TG are independent risk factors for T2DM combined with CI,and education level is a protective factor.The higher the education level,the lower the risk of CI in T2DM patients.
