Abstract:Objective To study the clinical efficacy of porous metal plates in the intraoperative treatment of acute closed achilles tendon rupture. Methods This was a retrospective study involving 50 patients with fresh closed Achilles tendon parenchymal rupture admitted from February 2,2016 to November 30,2017.Among them,16 were treated with oval forceps-assisted surgery(oval forceps group),19 were treated with porous metal plates(porous metal plate group),and 15 were treated with Achillon(Achillon group).Surgery time, intraoperative incision length, number of intraoperative punctures,post-operative follow-up for incision-related complications, and other surgery-related indexes and clinical indexes, such as,the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society(AOFAS)score, and the Achilles Tendon Total Rupture Score(ATRS)were collected. The clinical efficacy of the porous metal plate in the adjuvant treatment of acute unilateral closed Achilles tendon rupture was assessed. Results The average surgical incision length in the porous metal plate group was significantly shorter than that of the other two groups(F=48.585,P<0.01),and the number of intraoperative punctures was significantly less in the porous metal plate group was significantly shorter than the other two groups(Z=-3.053,P<0.01).No significant difference in the incidence of incision-related complications was found among the three groups(x2=2.423,P<0.05).There was no significant difference in the AOFAS score at each time point among the three groups(P>0.05).At the postoperative follow-up visit for 6 months, the ATRS score was significantly higher in the oval forceps group than the porous metal plate group(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in the ATRS score at the remaining time points among the three groups(P>0.05).Conclusion Use of porous metal plates in the treatment of acute unilateral closed Achilles tendon rupture can achieve good clinical efficacy, which is featured by reduced hospitalization cost, anatomical fit, ease of operation, and low learning curve.
