Abstract:Objective To illustrate the correlation of serum uric acid(SUA)with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)combined with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease(MAFLD)by analyzing the clinical features correlated with SUA in hospitalized T2DM patients with MAFLD.Methods A total of 285 T2DM combined with MAFLD patients hospitalized in the Endocrinology Department of the First Hospital of Qinhuangdao were selected. They were divided into 4 groups(no MAFLD,mild MAFLD,moderate MAFLD,and severe MAFLD)according to MAFLD severity. They were also divided into Q1-Q4 groups according to the quartile of baseline SUA.Fasting blood glucose(FPG),triglycerides(TG),total cholesterol(TC),low-density lipoprotein cholesterol l(LDL-C),SUA,creatinine(Cr)and imaging results were recorded. The detection rate of MAFLD in each group was calculated.Logistics regression was performed to analyze the effect of baseline SUA levels on new-onset MAFLD in T2DM patients. Results Male T2DM patients were more likely to have MAFLD,and T2DM patients with younger age, shorter disease duration, and men were more likely to have severe MAFLD.As the severity of MAFLD increased, body mass index(BMI)and SUA levels increased.Diastolic blood pressure(DBP),TG,TC,LDL-c,FPG,and faster insulin(FINS)were significantly higher in the severe MAFLD group than the no MAFLD,mild MAFLD,and moderate MAFLD groups(P<0.05).The proportion of MAFLD increased as the SUA levels increased.Among the quartile blood uric acid levels, age, sex, diastolic blood pressure,BMI,Cr,and FINS were significantly different(P<0.05).Logistic regression analysis showed that the level of SUA increased the risk of MAFLD,and SUA level was an independent risk factor for the onset of MAFLD.Conclusion Increased SUA is an independent risk factor for the onset of MAFLD and can be used as an indicator to assess the risk of developing MAFLD.
