Effect of different pressure cryotherapy on postoperative pain and inflammation in the elderly patients with hip surgery

Abstract：Objective To explore applications of different pressure cryotherapy in the elderly patients undergoing hip surgery.Methods A total of 150 elderly patients who undergoing hip surgery from January 2022 to August 2023 were randomized 1∶1∶1 to continuous cryotherapy group,intermittent cryotherapy group,or control group.All patient were managed by routine care,the continuous cryotherapy group additionally received continuous cryotherapy for 72 hours,the intermittent cryotherapy group additionally received intermittent 30 minutes every 2 hours.The pain degree and inflammatory level among groups were compared.Results After 12h,24h,48h of surgery,the pain scores at resting state and active state were significantly lower in the continuous cryotherapy group compared to the intermittent cryotherapy group and control group,the intermittent cryotherapy group was significantly lower than the control group(all P＜0.05).The frequency of self-controlled analgesia pump using was significantly shorter in the continuous cryotherapy group than the intermittent cryotherapy group and control group,the intermittent cryotherapy group was superior to the control group(all P＜0.05).After 1d,3d,5d of surgery,the serum interleukin-6(IL-6)and C reactive protein(CRP)were significantly lower in the continuous cryotherapy group and intermittent cryotherapy group compared to the control group(P＜0.05),but there was no statistically significant difference between continuous cryotherapy group and intermittent cryotherapy group(P＞0.05).Conclusion Pressure cryotherapy therapy can effectively alleviate postoperative pain and inflammatory reaction in elderly patients with hip fractures,and continuous cryotherapy has a better intervention effect on pain than intermittent cryotherapy.
