Abstract:Objective To explore the correlation of serum levels of cystatin C(Cys-C)and interleukin-6(IL-6)with respiratory failure and prognosis in patients with acute organophosphorus pesticide poisoning(AOPP).Methods Seventy-eight AOPP patients admitted to our hospital from January 2021 to January 2024,were divided into the respiratory failure group(n=28)and non-respiratory failure group(n=50)based on their respiratory failure status.Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA)was applied to detect serum levels of Cys-C and IL-6.According to their survival status, patients were grouped into the death group(n=19)and survival group(n=59).Receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve was plotted to analyze the diagnostic value of serum Cys-C and IL-6 levels for respiratory failure in AOPP patients and to evaluate the prognosis of AOPP patients. Results Compared with the non-respiratory failure group, patients in the respiratory failure group showed significantly higher pesticide dosage, partial pressure of carbon dioxide(PaCO2),Cys-C,and IL-6 levels, but lower partial pressure of oxygen(PaO2)(P<0.05).The area under the curve(AUC)of combined diagnosis for respiratory failure was significantly higher than that of a single detection of Cys-C(Z=2.052,P=0.033)and IL-6(Z=1.989,P=0.039)alone.Compared with the survival group, patietns in the death group had significantly higher pesticide dosage,PaCO2,Cys-C,and IL-6 levels, but lower PaO2 level(P<0.05).Compared with individual prognostic evaluations, the combined levels of serum Cys-C(Z=1.893,P=0.045)and IL-6(Z=2.023,P=0.038)had a significantly higher AUC for evaluating the prognosis of AOPP patients. Conclusion Serum Cys-C and IL-6 levels are associated with the occurrence of respiratory failure and prognosis in AOPP patients.
