Abstract:Objective To analyze the effects of problem-oriented health education on the lung function and quality of life in elderly patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD).Methods A total of 100 elderly COPD patients admitted from March 2023 to March 2024 were selected. They were randomly divided into the control group and study group using a random number table, with 50 cases per group.Patients in the control group received routine intervention and health education, while those in the study group received a problem-oriented health education. The lung function, quality of life, psychological state, sleep quality, subjective well-being,self-perceived burden, and time for symptom improvement were observed between groups. Results Compared with those before interventions, forced expiratory volume in 1 second(FEV1),forced vital capacity(FVC),FEV1/FVC,quality of life, and subjective well-being scores of the two groups significantly increased after interventions, which were significantly higher in the study group than the control group(P<0.05).Compared with those before interventions, the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale(HAMA),Hamilton Depression Rating Scale(HAMD),Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI),caring,family/economy,emotion,and treatment burden scores of the two groups significantly decreased after interventions, which were significantly lower in the study group than the control group(P<0.05).Compared with the control group, patients in the study group had a significantly shorter time for the improvement of symptoms like chest tightness, cough, and sputum production(P<0.05).Conclusion Problem-oriented health education model applied in elderly COPD patients can improve the lung function, quality of life, and bad emotions with definite outcomes.
