Abstract:Objective To analyze the clinical study of rapid palatal expansion combined with front traction for treating skeletal class Ⅲ malocclusion in adolescents. Methods A total of 60 adolescent outpatients with skeletal Class Ⅲmalocclusion admitted t from June 2026 to August 2022 were selected.Indicators associated with the upper airway, soft tissue, hard tissue, appearance aesthetics, quality of life, chewing efficiency and total bite force of teeth were compared before and after treatment. Results After therapy, the oropharyngeal segment volume(V1),nasopharyngeal segment volume(V2),minimum cross-sectional area of oropharyngeal segment(S1),minimum cross-sectional area of nasopharyngeal segment(S2),sagittal diameter at the minimum cross-sectional area of the oropharyngeal segment(L1),Sagittal diameter at the minimum cross-sectional area of the nasopharyngeal segment(L2)were significantly higher than those before therapy(P<0.05).The Z angle,H angle, upper lip angle,SNA(the angle between the sella/nasion plane and the nasion/A plane),ANB(the angle between the NA plane and the NB plane),MP-SN(The angle between the MP and the SN plane),U1-NA(the angle between the long axis of the upper central incisor and the cranial base),aesthetic appearance score, the Use of Oral Health Impact Profile-14(OHIP-14)score,somatic pain, psychological discomfort,(mental, physical, social)disorder, handicap score, masticatory efficiency and total bite force were significantly elevated(P<0.05).The lower lip angle and U1-L1(maxillary incisor-mandibular incisor)decreased significantly(P<0.05).Conclusion The effect of rapid palatal expansion combined with front traction for treating adolescent skeletal class Ⅲ malocclusion is significant. It can effectively improve the indicators associated with the upper airway, soft tissue, hard tissue, appearance aesthetics, quality of life, chewing efficiency and total bite force of teeth.
