Effect of nursing intervention based on clown care on medical fear and anxiety in hospitalized children

Abstract:Objective This study aimed to explore the effect of nursing intervention based on clown care on medical fear and anxiety in school-age hospitalized children.Methods Totally 112 hospitalized children treated in our hospital from July 2021 to July 2023 were enrolled,and they were randomly assigned into study group(n=56)and control group(n=56).All patients were managed by conventional nursing intervention,and those in study group were additionally given nursing intervention based on the clown care.Spence Children's Anxiety Scale-Short Version(SCAS-S),Child Medical Fear Scale(CMFS),and self-designed parental satisfaction survey were performed to evaluate hospitalization anxiety,medical fears,and parental satisfaction of the children.Results After intervention,the study group presented significantly lower the dimension scores and total scores of SCAS-S and CMFS,and higher parental satisfaction than the control group(all P<0.05).Conclusion The nursing intervention based on clown care can effectively improve medical fear,hospitalization anxiety,and children's parents satisfaction in school-age hospitalized children.
