Effect of enhanced external counterpulsation combined with nifedipine controlled-release tablets in the treatment of isolated systolic hypertension in the elderly

Abstract：Objective To analyze the effect of enhanced external counterpulsation(EECP)combined with nifedipine controlled-release tablets in the treatment of isolated systolic hypertension in the elderly.Methods A total of 80 elderly patients with isolated systolic hypertension admitted from March 2021 to December 2022 were enrolled.They were randomly assigned into the control group and observation group,with 40 cases per group.Patients in both groups were treated with nifedipine controlled-release tablets,and those in the observation group were additionally given EECP.The clinical efficacy,blood pressure volatility,renal function indicators,and treatment safety were evaluated after treatment.Results The total effective rate was significantly higher in the observation group than that of control group(92.50％[37/40]vs 75.00％[30/40],P＜0.05).After treatment,the 24-hour mean systolic blood pressure(24 h mSBP),24-h ambulatory blood pressure standard deviation(SD),and 24-h ambulatory blood pressure coefficient of variation(CV)were significantly lower in the observation group than those of the control group(P＜0.05).After treatment,urinary microalbumin(MAU),urinary creatinine clearance(UCr),and urinary albumin/creatinine ratio(ACR)were significantly lower in the observation group than those of the control group(P＜0.05).No significant difference was detected in the incidence of adverse events(15.00％[6/40]vs 10.00％[4/40],P＞0.05).Conclusion EECP combined with nifedipine controlled-release tablets has good results in treating isolated systolic hypertension in the elderly,which can reduce the fluctuation of blood pressure and improve the renal function with a good safety.
