Effects of different nutritional status on helper T cells17/regulatory T cells, symptoms and signs as well as life quality of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease at acute exacerbation stage
Abstract:Objective To investigate the effects of different nutritional status on helper T cells17/regulatory T cells, symptoms and signs as well as life quality of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease at acute exacerbation stage and at one month after discharging from hospital. Methods A total of 122 patients with acute obstructive pulmonary disease at acute exacerbation stage who were treated in our hospital from January 2013 to December 2014 were enrolled in the study. According to serum albumin levels, these patients were divided into group A ( <30g/L,n=27),group B (≥30g/L and <35g/L,n=53) and group C (≥35g/L,n=42). The levels of helper T cell 17/regulatory T cells,Th17 cell fraction,Treg cell fraction,Th17 cell fraction/Treg cell fraction,interleukin-17 (IL-17),IL-10,symptoms and signs including shortness of breath, effective spasm, disappearance of arpeggios, and remission time of cough ,and health status questionnaire (SF-36) were observed and compared moang the three groups. Results The Th17 cell fraction,Th17 cell fraction/Treg cell fraction and IL-17 levels in group C were significantly lower than those in group A and group B,however, the Treg cell fraction and IL-10 levels in group C were significantly higher than those in group A and group B (P<0. 05). The Th17 cell fraction,Th17 cell fraction/Treg cell fraction and IL-17 levels in group B were significantly lower than those in group A,and the Treg cell fraction and IL-10 level were significantly higher than those in group A (P <0. 05). Moreover the remission time of shortness of breath, effective spasm, disappearance of arpeggio, and remission time of cough in group C were significantly shorter than those in group A and group B (P<0. 05). In addition the scores of physiological function, physiological functional authority, somatic pain, general health, social function, emotional functional authority, vitality and mental health in group C were significantly higher than those in group A and group B,moreover, which in group B were significantly higher than those in group A ( P<0. 05). Conclusion The imbalance of Th17/Treg cells exists in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease at acute exacerbation stage, moreover, the worse the nutritional status of patients, the more severer the imbalance condition, and the better the nutritional status of patients, the shorter the recovery time of symptoms and signs as well as the higher scores of life quality of patients.
