Abstract:Objective To observe the changes of serum HE4 and CA125 in patients with ovarian cancer before and after operation combined with chemotherapy. Methods A total of 69 patients with ovarian cancer were enrolled as observation group, at the same time 32 healthy subjects who received physical examination were enrolled as control group. The patients with stage I and stage Ⅱ ovarian cancer in observation group were treated by radical operation of ovarian cancer, and the patients with stage Ⅲ and stage IV ovarian cancer in observation group were treated by cytoreductive surgery. Moreover the lymph nodes of pelvic cavity and enterocoelia were cleaned carefully, and at one week after operation, the patients were treated by conventional cisplatin chemotherapy. The changes of serum HE4 and CA125 levels were detected in two groups, moreover, the changes of serum HE4 and CA125 levels were statistically analyzed and compared between relapse group and non relapse group. Results In observation group, there were 48 cases of complete remission, 9 cases of partial remission, 8 cases of stable disease condition, and 4 cases of worse disease condition, with the total effective rate being 82. 61%. Before operation the serum levels of CA125 and HE4 in observation group were significantly higher than those in control group, moreover the serum levels of CA125 and HE4 of patients whose operation therapeutic effects were invalid were significantly higher than those of patients whose operation therapeutic effects were effective (P<0. 05). At 1m, 2m, 3m, 4 months after treatment, the serum levels of CA125 and HE4 in observation group were gradually decreased with the time going on,which were significantly lower than those before treatment (P <0. 05). However after 4 -month treatment there were no significant differences in serum levels of CA125 and HE4 between observation group and control group (P >0. 05). After 1 -year treatment, the recurrence rate in observation group was 31. 88%. In adddition before treatment, the serum levels of CA125 and HE4 in relapse group were significantly higher than those in control group group (P<0. 05), and there were significant defferences in serum levels of CA125 and HE4 between relapse group and non relapse group (P<0. 05). After treatment, the serum levels of CA125 and HE4 in relapse group were significantly decreased,as compared with those before treatment (P <0. 05), however, which in relapse group after treatment were still significantly higher than those in control group and non relapse group normal levels (P>0. 05). Conclusion The serum levels of CA125 and HE4 have important significance in prediction and monitoring of ovarian cancer. Moreover the high serum levels of CA125 and HE4 may predict poor prognosis and high recurrence rate of ovarian cancer.
