Therapeutic effects of edaravone combined with citicoline on acute cerebral infarction and their effects on oxidativestress and inflammatory response of patients
Abstract:Objective To investigate the therapeutic effects of edaravone combined with citicoline on acute cerebral infarction ( ACI) . Methods A total of 210 patients with ACI were randomly divided into edaravone treatment group ( n=70), citicoline treatment group (n=70) and combination treatment group (n=70). On the basis of routine basic treatment, the patients in edaravone group were given edaravone injection 30mg by intravenous drip, twice a day, however the patients in citicoline group were given citicoline injection 750mg by intravenous drip, once a day. Moreover the patients in combination group were given edaravone injection 30mg by intravenous drip, twice a day and citicoline injection 750mg by intravenous drip, once a day, with a treatment course of 2 weeks for the three groups. The changes of various indexes were observed and compared among the three groups. Results After treatment, National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale ( NIHSS) scores were obviously decreased in in the three groups, however Modified Ashworth Scale ( MAS) scores and Activity of Daily Living (ADL) scores significantly increased,as compared with those before treatment (P<0. 05). The NIHSS scores in combination treatment group were significantly lower than those in edaravone treatment group and citicoline treatment group, however, MAS scores and ADL scores in combination treatment group were significantly higher than those in edaravone treatment group and citicoline treatment group respectively after treatment (P<0. 05). After treatment the levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) and adanced oxidation protein products ( AOPP) were significantly decreased in patients of the three groups, however the SOD levels were significantly increased in patients of the three groups (P <0. 05). Moreover the levels of MDA and AOPP in combination treatment group were significantly lower than those in edaravone treatment group and citicoline treatment group, and the superoxide dismutase ( SOD) levels in combination treatment group were significantly higher than those in edaravone treatment group and citicoline treatment group (P<0. 05). The levels of TNF-α, IL-6, IL-8 and hs CRP were significantly decreased in the three groups after treatment (P <0. 05). Moreover the levels of TNF-α, IL-6, IL-8 and hs-CRP in combination treatment group were significantly lower than those in edaravone treatment group and citicoline treatment group (P<0. 05). Conclusion The edaravone combined with Citicoline in treatment of acute cerebral infarction is safe and effective, with clinical reference value.
