A study on the levels of blood glucose, blood lipid, and thioredopetin interacting proteins in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus complicated by non-alcoholic fatty liver and correlation analysis
Abstract:Objective To investigate the levels of blood glucose, blood lipid, and thioredoxin interaction protein (TXNIP) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) complicated by non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD),and to explore their correlation. Methods A total of 102 patients with NAFLD were divided into normal glucose group [fasting blood glucose < 6.1 mmol/L and 2-h postprandial blood glucose (2hPBG) < 7.8mmol/L],abnormal glucose tolerance group (fasting blood glucose of 6.1 ~ 6.9mmoL/L,or 2hPBG of 7.8 ~ 11.0mmol/L) and T2DM group (fasting blood glucose ≥ 7.0mmol/L,and 2hPBG ≥ 11.1 mmol/L).The blood glucose (fasting plasma glucose,2hPBG,glycated hemoglobin),fasting insulin, blood lipids [low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C),high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C),triacylglycerols (TG) and total cholesterol (TC)] and TXNIP levels were observed and compared among the three groups. In addition, their correlations were analyzed. Results The levels of.fasting blood glucose,2hPBG,glycated hemoglobin, and fasting insulin in abnormal glucose tolerance group and T2DM group were significantly higher than those in normal blood glucose group (P < 0.05).The levels of fasting blood glucose,2hPBG and glycosylated hemoglobin levels in T2DM group were significantly higher than those in impaired glucose tolerance group (P < 0.05).There were no significant differences in fasting insulin levels between the two groups (P < 0.05).The levels of LDL-C,TG,and TC in T2DM group were significantly higher than those in abnormal glucose tolerance group and normal blood glucose group (P < 0.05).The levels of TG and TC in abnormal glucose tolerance group were significantly higher than those in normal blood glucose group (P < 0.05).The levels of LDL-C in abnormal glucose tolerance group were higher than those in normal glucose group, but the difference was not statistically significant (P > 0.05).There were no significant differences in HDL-C levels among the three groups (P > 0.05).The TXNIP levels in abnormal glucose tolerance group and T2DM group were higher than those in normal blood glucose group, and the TXNIP levels in T2DM group were significantly higher than those in abnormal glucose tolerance group (P < 0.05).Pearson correlation analysis showed that TXNIP levels were positively correlated with the levels of fasting blood glucose, glycated hemoglobin,2hPBG,fasting insulin,LDL-C,TG,and TC (r values were 0.818,0.875,0.202,0.689,0.849 and 0.674,respectively;P < 0.05).With TXNIP as the dependent variables, fasting blood glucose, glycated hemoglobin,2hPBG,fasting insulin,LDL-C,HDL-C,TG,and TC were used as independent variables for multiple linear stepwise regression analysis. The results revealed that TXNIP was positively correlated with 2hPBG,LDL-C,and fasting glucose after eliminating mutual-factor interaction (P < 0.05).Conclusion The patients with abnormal glucose tolerance complicated by NAFLD and those with T2DM have significantly blood glucose increase and lipid metabolism disorder.TXNIP is associated with blood glucose and LDL-C,and may be involved in the pathogenesis of T2DM complicated by NAFLD.
