Therapeutic effects of salbutamol combined with ambroxol aerosol inhalation on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease at acute exacerbation period in the elderly

Abstract：Objective To observe the clinical effects of salbutamol combined with ambroxol aerosol inhalation on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) at acute exacerbation period in the elderly. Methods Eighty-six elderly patients with COPD in acute exacerbation period were randomly divided into control group ( n =43) and observation group (n=43). The patients in control group were treated by new atomization inhalation of ambroxol hydrochlorideon on the basis of routine treatment,however,the patients in observation group,on the basis of control group,were treated by salbutamol sulfate atomization inhalation.After 10-day treatment the changes of blood gas,arterial partial pressure of oxygen and carbon dioxide, oxygen saturation,pulmonary function and forced vital capacity were obseved and compared between the two groups.Moreover the difference of sputumn capacity,dispearing time of cough,wheezing and lung rales and incidence rate of adverse effect were also obseved and compared between two groups.Results The results showed that the blood gas and pulmonary function were significantly improved in oberservation group, the amount of sputum discharge was obviously increased,moreover, the disappearing time of cough and the disappearing time of wheezing and lung rales in oberservation group were significantly shorter than those in control group ( P <0.05).In addition the cure rate and total effective rate in oberservation group were significantly higher than those in control group ( P <0.05),however,there was no significant difference in incidence rate of adverse reactions between two groups( P >0.05).Conclusion The salbutamol combined with ambroxol aerosol inhalation in treatment of COPD at acute exacerbation period in the elderly can significantly improve blood gas and pulmonary function of patients,which has the advantages of fast improvement of symptoms and signs of patients as well as higher cure rate,therefor, which is worth using widely in clinical practice.
