Expression and clinical significance of Slit2 in lung adenocarcinoma
Abstract:Objectives To investigate the expression and clinical significance of Slit2 in lung adenocarcinoma tissues and peritumoral normal lung tissues, and to explore the correlation between Slit2 expression and pathogenesis and development of lung adenocarcinoma in order to provide more evidences for the prevention and treatment of lung adenocarcinoma. Methods Fifty-four cases of lung adenocarcinoma tissues and 20 cases of peritumoral normal lung tissues were collected from the patients who underwent lung adenocarcinoma operation in Tangshan Gongren Hospital from January 2011 to January 2012.The expression levels of Slit2 were detected by immunohistochemisty, and the correlation between Slit2 expression and clinicopathological charateristics of lung adenocarcinoma was analyzed. Results The expression levels of Slit2 in peritumoral normal lung tissues were significantly higher than those in lung adenocarcinoma tisues (P < 0.05).Moreover the expression levels of Slit2 were closely correlated to the differentiation degree, lymph node metastasis and clinical staging of lung adenocarcinoma (P < 0.05).Conclusion The low expression of Slit2 in lung adenocarcinoma suggests that Slit2 may play an important role in inhibiting growh of tumor during pathogenesis and development of lung adenocarcinoma. Moreover the expression levels of Slit2 are closely correlated to the differentiation degree, lymph node metastasis and clinical staging of lung adenocarcinoma, which indicates that Slit2 expression is related with malignant biological behavior of lung adenocarcinoma, thus, the detection of Slit2 expression in tumor tissues can provide basis for evaluating patient's prognosis and monitoring biological behavior of tumor.
