Clinical effects and safety of cefazolin sodium pentahydrate in elderly patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease at acute period

Abstract：Objective To investigate and evaluate the clinical effects and safety of cefazolin sodium pentahydrate in elderly patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) at acute period.Methods Ninety elderly patients with acute COPD who were admitted and treated in our hospital in the last one year were randomly divided into control group and observation group according to random digits table, with 45 patients in each group.The patients in control group were treated by cefazolin sodium,however,the patients in observation group were treated by cefazolin sodium pentahydrate,with a treatment course of 2 weeks for both groups.After treatment the total effective rate,serum levels of amyloid A (serum amyloid A,SAA),C-reactive protein (CRP) and adverse reactions were observed and comapred between two groups.Results The total effective rate and incidence rate of adverse reactions in observation group and control group were 93.33%,4.44% vs 80.00%, 13.33%, and the total effective rate in observation group was higher than that in control group (P<0.05), however, the incidence rate of adverse reactions in observation group was lower than that in control group (P<0.05).Before treatment there were no significant differences in the levels of SAA and CRP between two groups (P>0.05),however, after treatment the improvement degree of inflammation status in observation group was superior to that in control group (P<0.05).Conclusion The cefazolin sodium pentahydrate is effective and safe in treatment of acute COPD in elderly patients,which can effectively dilate the airway and reduce inflammation reaction,with higher safety,thus, which can help the elderly patients to live through the acute phase smoothly.
