Clinical efficacy of orthokeratology lens and frame glasses in treatment of juvenile myopia

Abstract：Objective To investigate short-term effects of orthokeratology lens and frame glasses in treatment of juvenile myopia in order to provide reference for the improvement of visual acuity in teenagers with myopia.Methods Sixty-four teenagers with myopia who were treated in our hospital from January 2013 to December 2014 were enrolled in the study,and they were randomly divided into observation group and control group,with 34 cases in each group.The patients in control group were trated by wearing frame glasses,however,the patients in observation group were treated by wearing orthokeratology lens,then the naked eye visual acuity, diopter,corneal curvature and axis oculi length were observed and compared between two groups.Results After treatment the naked eye visual acuity in observation group was significantly higher than that in control group (P<0.05).There were no significant differences in the changes of naked visual acuity in control group before and after treatment (P>0.05),moreover, there were no significant differences in the changes of axial length in observation group before and after treatment (P>0.05),however,after treatment, the diopter in control group was significantly higher than that in observation group and that before treatment (P<0.05).After treatment the corneal curvature in observation group was significantly decreased (P<0.05),however,which in control group was significantly increased (P<0.05).There were no significant differences in the changes of axis oculi length in observation group before and after treatment (P>0.05),however, the axis oculi length in control group was significantly higher than that in observation group and that before treatment (P<0.05).Conclusion As compared with frame glasses,the orthokeratology lens has obvious therapeutic effects on juvenile myopia,which can effectively control the development of myopia, without serious adverse reactions,therefor,which should be paid much attention to in clinical practice.
