Abstract:Objective To investigate the expression and clinical significance of HMGA1 and HMGA2 in pancreatic carcinoma. Methods The expression levels of HMGA1 and HMGA2 were detected by immunohistochemistry (SP) in 60 cases of pancreatic carcinomas and 30 cases of normal pancreatic tissues. The correlation between the expressions and cliniopathological indexes of pancreatic carcinoma was analyzed. Results The expression levels of HMGA1 and HMGA2 in pancreatic carcinoma were significantly higher than those in normal pancreatic tissues (P<0.01).The expression levels of HMGA1 were closely correlated to TNM staging, histological grading and lymph node metastasis of pancreatic carcinomas(χ2=6.774,4.776,12.614,respectively,P<0.05),however,the expression levels of HMGA2 were only correlated with TNM staging and histological grading of pancreatic carcinomas (χ2=8.200,7.253,respectively,P<0.05).Moreover the expression of HMGA1 was positively associated with that of HMGA2 (r=0.428,P<0.01).Conclusion The HMGA1 and HMGA2 are highly expressed in pancreatic carcinoma, both of them play an important role in the pathogenesis and development of pancreatic carcinoma, which can promote invasion and metastasis of pancreatic carcinoma. The combined detection of HMGA1 with HMGA2 can be regarded as assistant indexes for early diagnosis and prognostic evaluation of pancreatic carcinoma.
