Abstract:Objective To observe the therapeutic effects and safety of paravertebral doxorubicin combined with radiofrequency thermocoagulation on postherpetic neuralgia (PHN).Methods Fifty-six with thoracic postherpetic neuralgia who were treated in our hospital were randomly divided into group A and group B,with 28 patients in each group. The patients in group A were given doxorubicin paravertebrally, however, the patients in group B,on the basis of group A were treated by radiofrequency thermocoagulation. The onset time of efficiency after treatment, the efficacy score, visual analogue scale (VAS),sleep quality score before treatment and on 1w,1m,2m, 4m and 8m after treatment as well as adverse reactions after treatment were observed and compared between two groups. Results The onset time of efficiency in group A was obviously longer than that in group B,however, the excellent rates on 4m and 8m after treatmnet in group B were significantly higher than those in group A,and VAS scores in group B were obviously lower than those in group A,however, the sleep scores were significantly higher than those in group A (P<0.05).The incidence rate of numbness in group B was higher than that in group A,but there were no significant differences in the incidence rates of the other adverse reactions between two groups (P>0.05).Conclusion The paravertebral doxorubicin combined with radiofrequency thermocoagulation has the advantages of shorter onset time of efficiency and better long-term efficacy in treatment of thoracic postherpetic neuralgia, thus, which is worth using widely in clinical practice.
