Therapeutic effects of bone cement vertebroplasty and postoperative zoledronic acid medication on osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures
Abstract:Objective To observe the therapeutic effects of bone cement vertebroplasty and postoperative zoledronic acid medication on osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures. Methods Sixty patients with osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture who were admitted and treated in our hospital from January 2014 to March 2016 were randomly divided into control group (n =30) and observation group (n =30).The patients in control group were treated by bone cement vertebroplasty only, however, the patients in observation group,on the basis of control group, were treated by postoperative zoledronic acid medication. The anterior and posterior height of injuried pyramid and kyphosis Cobb'angle,BMD score,VAS score,ODI score were observed and compared between two groups. Results On 24h,6m after treatment, the anterior and posterior height of injuried pyramid and BMD score in observation group were obviously higher than those in control group, however, the kyphosis Cobb'angle was significantly less than that in control group. The VAS score and ODI score in observation group were significantly lower than those in control group (P < 0.05).However tere were no significant differences in intraoperative and postoperative adverse reactions between two groups (P > 0.05).Conclusion The bone cement vertebroplasty combined with postoperative zoledronic acid medication can effectively relieve postoperative pains, increase bone mineral density and decrease the risk of vertebral fractures of patients with vertebral compression fractures.
