Abstract:Objective To observe and compare the therapeutic effects of of procalcitonin ( PCT ) index guided therapy and traditional anti-inflammatory therapy on pulmonary bacterial infection in children .Methods One hundred children patients with pulmonary bacterial infection who were admitted and treated in our hospital from April 2014 to April 2015 were randomly divided into PCT index guided therapy group and traditional anti -inflammatory therapy group , with 50 patients in each group. The patients in the two groups were treated by PCT index guided therapy and traditional anti-inflammatory therapy, respectively. The levels of PCT, WBC and CRP were detected and compared between two groups . Results The results showed that the body temperature and PCT levels were improved during treatment ,however, there were no significant differences in body temperature and PCT levels between two groups ( P >0.05).The antibiotics use time, usage rate of antibiotics , treatment expenses and length of staying in hospital in PCT index guided therapy group were significantly decreased,as compared with those in traditional anti -inflammatory therapy group ( P <0.05).After treatment, 4 patients in PCT index guided therapy group had adverse reactions ( dysbacteriosis ) , however , 15 patients in traditional anti-inflammatory therapy group had adverse reactions ,there were significant differences between two groups ( P <0.05).The total effective rates in PCT index guided therapy group and traditional anti-inflammatory therapy group were 88.00% and 86.00%,respectively, there were no significant differences between two groups ( P >0.05).Conclusion The PCT index guided therapy can effectively shorten antibiotics use time ,decrease usage rate of antibiotics ,reduce obviously treatment costs and shorten effectively the length of staying in hospital , which has important directive effects for clinical application of antibiotics, moreover, which can lessen economy burden at some extent for the family of patients , besides, which may reduce or prevent the occurrence of drug resistance .
