Abstract:Objective To observe the expressions of E-cadherin and matrix metalloproteinase-9 ( MMP-9 ) in lung cancer tissues, and to analyze the correlation between their expressions and clinicopathological characteristics of lung cancer . Methods The expression levels of E-cadherin and MMP-9 proteins were detected by immunohistochemistry ( SP ) in 138 cases of lung squamous carcinoma and lung adenocarcinoma as well as adjacent normal lung tissues .Results The positive expression rate of E-cadherin in lung cancer tissues was 28.99% (40/138),however,which was 66.67% (92/138) in normal lung tissues, there was a significant difference between them ( P <0.05).The positive expression rate of MMP-9 in lung cancer tissues was 59.42% (82/138),however,which was 29.71% (41/138) in normal lung tissues, there was a significant difference between them ( P <0.05).The expression levels of E-cadherin and MMP-9 were closely correlated to the differentiation degree ,TNM staging of lung cancer , lymph node metastasis of lung cancer and patient's survival time after surgery ( P <0.05), however, the expression levels of E-cadherin and MMP-9 were not related with pathological type of lung cancer, patient’s sex and age, smoking history ( P >0.05).Moreover the expression of E-cadherin was negatively correlated to that of MMP-9 ( P <0.05).Conclusion The low expression of E-cadherin and high expression of MMP-9 may be important biological indexes of invasion and metastasis of lung cancer .
