Expression and clinical significance of Rb protein, E-cadherin and β-catenin in metastatic lymph nodes from advanced gastric carcinoma
Abstract:Objective To investigate the expression and clinical significance of Rb protein as well as the re-expression of E-cadherin and β-catenin in cancerous cells of metastatic lymph nodes from advanced gastric carcinoma. Methods The expression levels of Rb protein in primary focus, and expression levels of E-cadherin and β-catenin were detected by immunohistochemistry in primary focus of 86 cases of advanced gastric carcinoma and the corresponding metastatic lymph nodes. Results In primary focus of gastric cancer, the positive rate of Rb protein was 65.12%, and the positive rate of re-expression of E-cadherin andβ-catenin was 46.51%in cancerous cells of metastatic lymph nodes from advanced gastric carcinoma, moreover, the expressions of Rb were closely correlated to the differentiation degree and pathological types of tumor ( P <0.05) .The re-expression levels of E-cadherin and β-catenin in metastatic lymph nodes were closely related with the differentiation degree of tumor ( P <0.05).The re-expression levels of E-cadherin in metastatic lymph nodes were closely correlated to the pathological types of tumor ( P <0.05), however, the re-expression levels ofβ-catenin were not correlated to the pathological types of tumor ( P >0.05).The re-expression levels of Rb protein were not correlated to those of E-cadherin andβ-catenin in cancerous cells of metastatic lymph nodes, and to tumor’s size and infiltration degree ( P >0.05). The re-expression of Ec-adherin was closely correlated to that of βc-atenin in metastatic lymph nodes ( P <0.05),however, the expression levels of Rb protein in primary focus of tumor were not related with those of E -cadherin or βc-atenin in metastatic lymph nodes ( P >0.05) .Conclusion The expression of Rb protein is closely correlated to the pathogenesis and development of advanced gastric carcinoma. The ree-xpressions of E-cadherin and β-catenin in cancerous cells of metastatic lymph nodes from advanced gastric carcinoma play an important role in the pathogenesis of advanced gastric carcinoma ,with a synergism effect, thus, combination detection of E-cadherin with β-catenin has important clinical significance in evaluating their effects in tumor metastasis.
