Effects of baicalin on the expressions of TNF-αmRNA and IL-6mRNA in gingiva tissues of rat with periodontitis
Abstract:Objective To observe the effects of baicalin on the expressions of tumor necrosis factor alpha ( TNF-α) mRNA and interleukin-6 (IL-6) mRNA in gingiva tissues of rat with periodontitis in order to explore the action mechanism of baicalin in treatment of periodontitis. Methods Fifty SD rats ( 8-week age ) were randomly divided into 5 groups:blank control group (group A), periodontitis group (group B), baicalin treatment groups including group C1,group C2,group C3, with 10 rats in each group. The animal models with periodontitis were established in group B,group C1,group C2 and group C3.All the rats were sacrificed after 7-day treatment, and the expression levels of TNF-αmRNA and IL-6 mRNA were detected by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction ( RT-PCR) technique. Results The expression levels of TNF-αmRNA and IL-6 mRNA in gingiva tissues of rats in group B were significantly higher than those in group A ( P <0.05),moreover, the expression levels of TNF-αmRNA and IL-6 mRNA in group C1,group C2 and group C3 were significantly lower than those in group B ( P <0.05).Conclusion The baicalin can decrease the expression levels of TNF-αmRNA and IL-6 mRNA in gingiva tissues of rat with periodontitis, and can also improve the status of periodontal tissues.
