Abstract:Objective To observe the shorter-term and long-term curative effects of Maitong recipe combined with thioctic acid on diabetic peripheral neuropathy ( DPN) in elderly patients. Methods One hundred and twenty-six elderly patient with DPN who were admitted and treated in our hospitals were divided into research group and control group by using random digits table, with 53 patients in each group. The patients in both groups were treated by controlling diet, hypoglycemic and antihypertensive drugs, moreover, the patients in control group were given thioctic acid, however, the patients in research group were given Maitong recipe. After treatment, the shorter-term and long-term curative effects were evaluated and compared between two groups. Results The shorter - term and long-term total effective rates in research group were 93. 65%, 92. 06%, respectively, which were significantly higher than those (77. 78%,71. 43%) in control group ( P <0. 05). At the end of treatment course and after 1-year follow-up,the conduction velocity of motor nerve and sensory nerve in research group was significantly faster than that in control group ( P <0. 05 or <0. 01),furthermore, the TSS scores of symptoms and VAS scores of pain in research group were significantly lower than those in control group ( P <0. 05 or <0. 01). Conclusion The Maitong recipe combined with thioctic acid in treatment of diabetic peripheral neuropathy in elderly patients can obtain more ideal shorter-term and long-term curative effects.
