Abstract:Objective To investigate the expression and significance of apoptosis -related protein Bcl-2,Bax in oral leukoplakia (OLK),and to explore the mechanism of pathogenesis and cancerization of oral leukoplakia. Methods The expression levels of Bcl-2 and Bax were detected by immunohistochemistry in 29 cases OLK and 25 cases of healthy oral mucosa. Results The apoptosis indexes (AI) of OLK epithelial cells in simple hyperplasia, dysplasia ( mild, moderate, severe degrees ) were significantly increased, as compared with those in normal mucosa. In OLK epithelium, the overexpressions of Bcl-2,Bax in positive cells were observed, and the intensity and distribution of apoptosis-related protein were significantly changed. Conclusion In precancerous lesions,Bcl-2 may promote the progression of canceration of hyperplastic tissue, enhance the effects of Bax in inducing cell apoptosis, moreover, the effects of apoptosis-related proteins are not only cooperative but also restrict each other.
