The clinical value of changes of N-terminal p ro-brain natriuretic peptide levels in patients with acute exacerbation ;chronic obstruc itve pulmonary disease
Abstract: Obej ctive To investigate the clinical significance of N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide ( NT-proBNP) levels in patients with acute exacerbation chronic obstructive pulmonary disease ( AECOPD) M.ethods Thirty patients with AECOPD were enrolled in the study .The plasma levels of NTp-roBNP,APACHEⅡscores and pulmonary artery pressures ( PAP) were measured before treatment and 24 hours after treatment for all the patients .Results The NT -proBNP levels were positively correlated to APACHEⅡscores ( r =0.763, P <0.01) and to PAP value ( r =0.888, P <0.01) in patients with AECOPD before treatment. However after 24-hour treatment,NT-proBNP levels,APACHE Ⅱ scores as well as PAP value were significantly decreased,as compared with those before treatment ( P <0.05).After treatment NT-proBNP levels were still positively correlated to APACHE Ⅱ scores (r =0.609, P <0.01) and to PAP value ( r =0.821, P <0.01).Conclusion There are favourable positive correlations between NT -proBNP levels and APACHE Ⅱscores as well as PAP value, which can reflect the severity of pathogenetic condition of patients with AECOPD.
