Expressions and clinical significance of IGF-1 and IGFBP-3 in colon cancer
Abstract:Objective To investigate the roles and the clinical significance of IGF-1 and IGFBP-3 in the pathogenesis of colon cancer. Methods The expression levels of IGF-1 and IGFBP-3 were detected by immunohistochemistry ( SP) in 78 cases of colorectal carcinoma tissues (CRC group) and 78 cases of normal colon mucosa tissues (control group). Results The positive expression rate of IGF-1 was 57.7%in colon cancer group, which was significantly higher than that (25%) in control group ( P <0.01).However the positive expression rate of IGFBP-3 was 73.1% in CRC group, which was significantly lower than that ( 89.7%) in control group ( P <0.01).The expression of IGF-1in colon cancer tissues was closely correlated to infiltration depth of tumor,TNM staging and lymph node metastasis ( P <0.05),and the expression of IGFBP-3 in colon cancer was related with TNM staging, lymph node metastasis as well as distant metastasis ( P <0.05),however,the expressions of both IGF-1 and IGFBP-3 were not correlated to the other factors ( P >0.05).The expression of IGF-1 was negatively related with that of IGFBP-3 ( P <0.05).Conclusion IGF-1and IGFBP-3 play an important role in the pathogenesis and development of colon cancer, and the two factors are related with multi-parameters about prognosis. The combined detection of IGF-1 and IGFBP-3 may become one of biological indexes for evaluating prognosis of patients with colon cancer.
