Abstract:Objective To observe the changes of cytokines in peripheral blood and neurotransmitters in elderly patients with major depression ( MD) ,and to explore the correlation between them .Methods The levels of interleukine-1 beta ( IL-1β) , interleukine-6 ( IL-6 ) , tumor necrosis factor-α( TNF-α) , norepinephrine ( NE ) , dopamine ( DA ) and 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) in peripheral blood were detected in 200 patients with MD (MD group)and 50 healthy subjects ( control group ) .Results The IL-6 levels in MD group were significantly increased ,as compared with those in control group (P <0.01),however,5-HT and DA levels in MD group were significantly lower than those in control group ( P <0.05).NE was negatively correlated to IL1-βin patients with MD ( r =-0.183, P <0.01).Conclusion The pathogenesis of senile depression is closely related with neurotransmitters and cytokines in peripheral blood .
