Abstract:Objective To investigate the role of pigment epithelium derived factor (PEDF) in the pathogenesis and development of diabetic nephropathy (DN) through detecting the expression levels of PEDF in serum in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus at different stages ,in order to provide more sensitive clinical detection indexes for early diagnosis of DN . Methods The 150 subjects were divided into five groups ,health control group, type 2 diabetes mellitus group,DN Ⅲ stage group,DN Ⅳ stage group and DN Ⅴ stage group, with 30 cases in each group. The fasting serum PEDF,vein FPG,glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c),TG,TC,sCr were detected by ELISA.Results PEDF levels in health control group, type 2 diabetes mellitus group,DN Ⅲ stage group,DN Ⅳ stage group and DN Ⅴ stage group were in turn increased, and there were significant differences among the five groups ( P <0.05).Person correlation analysis showed that PEDF was positively correlated with FPG,TC,TG,HbA1c,LDL,HDL ( r =0.510,0.56,0.462,0.397,0.411,respectively, P <0.01),however,which was negatively correlated to HDL ( r =-0.325, P <0.01).Conclusion The serum PEDF levels are obviously increased in patients with DN,furthermore, which increase gradually with the development of pathogenetic condition .The increase of serum PEDF levels may play certain compensation protection effect during the pathogenesis and development of DN ,which may become a sensitive index in early diagnosis of DN .
