Correlation between carotid plaques reversal degree due to rosuvastatin therapy and short-term prognosis of the patients with acute coronary syndrome undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention
Abstract:Objective To observe the effect of rosuvastatin on arteriosclerosis plaque of carotid artery in patients with acute coronary syndrome ( ACS ) who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention ( PCI ) and to explore the relationship between carotid plaques reversal degree and the incidence of major adverse cardiac events (MACE) after PCI.Methods A total of 180 patients with ACS (109 males and 71 females, age range:38~77yr) were treated with rosuvastatin (10mg,0~3 days before and after PCI ) .The area of carotid artery plaques was measured by carotid Doppler ultrasound at perioperative period (3 days before and after PCI ),6 months and 12 months after PCI,then the patients were divided into two groups according to the alleviative degree of carotid atherosclerosis plaques:group A ( obvious reversal group ) and group B ( no obvious reversal group ) , the patients in both groups were followed up for 12 months and the incidences of MACE were compared between the two groups .Results The incidences of MACE in group A were significantly lower than those in group B (10.2%vs 22.8% in 6 months after PCI and 17.6% vs 43.6% in 12 months after PCI, P <0.01).Conclusion The rosuvastatin can reverse carotid atherosclerosis plaques at different degrees ,the patients with obvious carotid plaques reversal have better short-term prognoses after PCI .
