Effect of epimedium combined with caltrate D on serum levels of IL-6 and TNF-αin elderly patients with osteoporosis
Abstract：Objective To observe the effect of epimedium combined with caltrate D on the serum level of IL -6 , TNF-αin elderly patients with osteoporosis .Methods A total of 80 elderly patients with osteoporosis were randomly divided into control group and trial group ,with 40 patients in each group.The patients in control group were treated with caltrate D , however,the patients in experiment group were treated with epimedium combined with caltrate D ,with a treatment course of 6 months for both groups.The clinical efficacy,the time of pain relief,the serum levels of IL-6 and TNF-αwere observed in both groups.Results The total effective rate in trial group was significantly higher than that in control group ( P <0.05).As compared with that before treatment,the time of pain relief in trial group was significantly shortened and the serum levels of IL-6 and TNF-αwere obviously decreased after treatment ( P <0.05).However there were no significant differences in the serum levels of IL-6 and TNF-αbefore and after treatment in control group ( P >0.05).Conclusion Epimedium combined with caltrate D can obviously improve clinical symptoms and reduce serum levels of IL -6 and TNF-αin elderly patients with osteoporosis .
