Effect of icariin on osteoporosis induced by retinoic acid in rats
Abstract:Obej ctive To investigate the effect of icariin on osteoporosis induced by retinoic acid in rats .Method s The rats were randomly divided into control group ,model group and icariin low -dose,middle-dose,high-dose group, with 10 rats in each group .The osteoporosis models in rats were established by giving icariin 70 mg/kg via gavage for two weeks .The rats in icariin groups were given icariin 50,100,200mg by gavage, respectively for 4 weeks. The related indexes about blood and bone, bone density, bone physical and biomechanical parameters were detected .Results As compared with those in model group, the levels of Ca2+,P3+in serum were increased, however, the concentrations of ALP were decreased in icariin groups (P <0.01).The levels of Ca2+,P3+,Hyp in bone were increased ( P <0.05 or <0.01),and bone density, wet weight, dry weight ,maximum bending force ,bending strength ,bending strength ,the end point of section elastic load in bone were increased in icariin groups ( P <0.01).Conclusion Icariin has preventive and the therapeutic effects at some extent on osteoporosis induced by retinoic acid in rats .
