The relationship and significance of hypoxia-inducible factor-1αand epithelial-mesenchymal transition in bladder cancer
Abstract:Objective To investigate the expression of hypoxia-inducible factor-1α( HIF-1α) ,E-cadherin and Vimentin in bladder carcinoma and normal bladder tissues .Methods The expression levels of E-cad, Vimentin and HIF-1αwere detected by immunohistochemistry in 76 cases of bladder carcinoma and 15 cases of normal bladder tissues ( control group ) .The relationship among the three factors and their correlation with pathological grading and clinical staging were analyzed .Results The abnormal expression rate of E-cad in bladder carcinoma and the positive rates of Vimentin and HIF-1αexpression were significantly increased ,as compared with those in normal bladder tissue ,moreover, with the increase of malignant degree of bladder carcinoma ,which were increased, and there were significant differences among different pathological grading and clinical staging ( P <0.05).The expression of E-cad was closely correlated to that of Vimentin ( P <0.05).The expression of HIF-1αwas closely related to that of E-cad or Vimentin ( P <0.05).Conclusion There exists epithelial-mesenchymal transition during the pathogenesis and development of bladder carcinoma .The expression of HIF-1αmay be correlated with the pathogenesis of epithelial-mesenchymal transition in bladder cancer .
