Relationship between the expression of NF-κB in cervical carcinoma and HPV infection
Abstract:Objective To investigate the expression of nuclear factor kappa-B ( NF-κB ) in cervical carcinoma and to explore the correlation between the expression of NF-κB and human papilloma virus ( HPV ) infection. Methods The expression levels of NF-κB were detected by immunohistochemistry (SP) in 80 cases of cervical carcinoma(CSES),70 cases of cervical intraepithelial neoplasm (CIN) and 40 cases of normal cervical tissues ( NCE ) .The infection status of HPV 16/18 was detected by in situ hybridization in 80 cases of CSES . Results The positive expression rates of NF-κB protein in CSES, CIN, NCE were 72.5%, 18.6%, 0, respectively .The expression levels of NF-κB in CSES were significantly higher than those in CIN and NCE ( P <0.05).The expression of NF-κB was closely related to pathological classification, clinical stage, lymph node metastasis of cervical carcinoma and HPV infection ( P <0.05 ), however, which were not correlated with patient’s age and histological type.Furthermore the expression of NF-κB was positively correlated to HPV16/18 infection ( r =0.884, P <0.05).Conclusion Overexpression of NF-κB exists in patients with cervical cancer , which is closely related with HPV 16/18 infection, moreover, the two factors may promote together the pathogenesis and development of cervical carcinoma ,so they can be used as the potential target for gene therapy .
