Abstract:In order to reveal the meso-structure damage evolution characteristics of layered salt rocks, scanning electron microscope(SEM)and digital image correlation(DIC)were used to systematically analyse the meso-structure differences and damage evolution laws of pure salt rocks,high-impurity salt rocks and lay-ered salt rocks, and to verify the damage mechanism based on the discrete element simulation of PFC2D.The results show that the transition zone at the salt-mud interface is a source of crack initiation due to the coarse grain size and open pore space of the salt rock and the fine lamellar structure of the mudrock, and the damage of the layered salt rock starts from brittle fracture of the mudrock, and the transition zone at the interface do mi-nates the damage evolution through progressive pore closure, accumulation of microcracks, and the synergistic effect of compression-tension,and the inhomogeneous and impurity content shortens the plasticity stage and ag-gravates brittleness damage, which is the main reason for the damage evolution. The results of this study pro-vide a reference for the construction and operation of salt cavern gas storage.
