Research on the size reservation of protective coal pillars in shallow thick coal seam roadway

Abstract：Setting up coal pillars to protect roadways is still the main method of roadway protection in many coal mines in China,but it also causes a significant loss of coal resources.The width of the coal pillar is the key to the stability of the coal pillar and the surrounding rock of the tunnel.The safe width of the coal pillar plays an important role in improving the stress distribution environment of the surrounding rock,isolating the goaf of the working face,and maintaining the stability of the surrounding rock of the tunnel.The width of sec-tion coal pillars is related to the burial depth of the coal mining area,the inclination angle of the working face,the height of the coal seam,and the surrounding rock of the roadway roof and floor.The mining conditions of different coal mines are different,and different mining areas have their own methods for retaining the width of coal pillars.Therefore,this paper conducts research on the safety width of the coal pillar in the west wing belt conveyor roadway of Bailu Coal Mine,analyzes the stress distribution,deformation characteristics,and plastic zone distribution inside the coal pillar,and ultimately obtains the safety coal pillar width reservation.It is dem-onstrated that under this size of coal pillar,it is crucial to ensure that the protected roadway does not cause in-stability during the excavation process,which is crucial for the safety production of the coal mine.
