Abstract：The size of Coal pillar is an important factor affecting the stability of surrounding rock.There is the big pillar in He Cao Gou Coal Mine,causing great loss of coal.Based on the geological condition of coal seam in He Cao Gou Coal Mine,We built a numerical model for the size of coal pillar of 6 m,8 m,10 m,12 m and 14 m by using the software FLAC3D to numerically study the coal pillar and the plastic failure area,the stress distribution along the roadway,roadway displacement.Considering the plastic zone damage range,the maxi-mum principal stress,roof displacement value and resource recycling and other factors,it meets the require-ments of economic and safety mining.when the coal pillar is 10m.
