Abstract:Heavy rainfall and human engineering usually induce landslides, collapses and other geological disasters, and then cause serious losses of life and property. In order to reveal the causes of the landslide at the entrance of Nanshan Tunnel on Fenghuangshan Expressway in Xining,Qinghai Province, based on detailed field investigation,we systematically studied the landslide by using engineering geology, soil mechanics and simulation calculation methods. The results show that the main sliding direction of the landslide at the entrance of Nanshan Tunnel is 315°,and the average thickness of the sliding body is about 10.2-15.6 m.The main internal controlling factor is the morphology of the high and steep slope formed by the differential tectonic uplift and subsidence. The low strength of the mudstone and gypsum-salt strata constitutes the material basis for landslide instability. The factors such as precipitation and human engineering influences serve as the inducement for landslide occurrence. The calculation results of the transfer coefficient method for landslide stability demonstrate that this landslide is in an understable-unstable state under natural conditions and an unstable state under conditions of rainstorms or continuous rainfall and earthquakes.
