Abstract:To protect free-standing cultural relics,we simulated their sliding and oscillation responses un-der earthquakes using Simulink simulation technique.By hypothesis that the shape of cultural relics was rectangle, their sliding and oscillation conditions under earthquakes were analyzed.Firstly, their motion e-quations were deduced. Then their Simulink models were built.By simulation analysis, their response curves of displacement, velocity and acceleration were obtained. Finally, parameters such as friction ratio between the relic and its base, peak earthquake acceleration values, ratio of width of the relic against its height(B/H) and so on were discussed. Results show that oscillation responses of the relic are sensitive to initial conditions.Oscillation conditions of the relic relates closely to B/H,earthquake intensity and fric-tion coefficient between object and its base. The responses become more serious with less B/H or larger earthquake intensity values.Sliding motion of the cultural relic relates mainly to the friction ratio and earthquake strength. Its sliding response is more obvious with the increase of earthquake strength and de-crease of friction ratio.Besides,Simulink can effectively simulate sliding and oscillation responses of free-standing objects under earthquakes, which proves that the technique is useful.
