Abstract:Objective To evaluate the effect of information-motivation-behavioral skills(IMB)model-based health education in patients with alcoholic cirrhosis(AC)and its impact on patients'alcohol dependence,self-efficacy,and self-management ability. Methods Using the implementation of IMB model-based health education in the Department of Gastroenterology at the First Affiliated Hospital of Air Force Medical University(June 2023)as the cut-off,106 AC patients who received treat-ment before implementation(May 2022-May 2023)were enrolled as the control group and received routine health educa-tion;106 AC patients who received treatment after implementation(June 2023-June 2024)were enrolled as the observation group and received IMB model-based health education in addition to routine health education.Alcohol dependence,self-effi-cacy,self-management ability, and social adaptation were compared between the two groups before and after intervention. Results Before intervention, there were no statistically significant differences between the two groups in daily alcohol intake or Michigan Alcoholism Screening Test(MAST)scores(P>0.05).After intervention, daily alcohol intake in both groups was lower than before the intervention and was lower in the observation group than in the control group, and MAST scores in both groups were lower than before intervention and lower in the observation group than in the control group;these differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).Before intervention, there was no statistically significant difference be-tween the two groups in General Self-Efficacy Scale(GSES)scores(P>0.05);after intervention,GSES scores in both groups were significantly higher than before intervention and were significantly higher in the observation group than in the control group(P<0.05).Before intervention, there were no statistically significant differences between the two groups in the four subscales(daily life management, dietary management, condition monitoring management, medication manage-ment)or the total score of the Self-Management Behavior Scale(P>0.05);after intervention, scores for all four subscales and the total score were significantly higher than before intervention in both groups and were significantly higher in the ob-servation group than in the control group(P<0.05).Before intervention, there was no statistically significant difference between the two groups in Social Functioning Rating Scale(SFRS)scores(P>0.05);after intervention,SFRS scores in both groups were significantly higher than before intervention and were significantly higher in the observation group than in the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion IMB model-based health education effectively reduces alcohol dependence,im-proves self-efficacy and self-management ability, and strengthens social adaptation in patients with alcoholic cirrhosis.
