Abstract:Objective This study aims to conduct a scoping review of factors influencing death literacy among adult populations in China and globally, providing a comprehensive map of existing evidence. Methods Following the PRISMA-ScR checklist for scoping reviews,we systematically searched PubMed,Web of Science,Ovid,Embase,CINAHL,SinoMed,CNKI,and Wan-fang Data for studies on adult death literacy published from January 2014 to December 2024.Two reviewers extracted data from eligible studies, and influencing factors were summarized and analyzed according to the five levels of the socio-ecological model:individual, interpersonal, organizational, community, and policy. Results Seventeen studies were included:six quali-tative,nine cross-sectional,and two mixed-methods.Influencing factors emerged at all socio-ecological levels. At the individu-al level, factors included demographics, personal experiences related to death, and cognitive and attitudinal aspects toward death. At the interpersonal level, filial behaviors, family decision-making patterns, and social connectedness were pertinent. The organizational level encompasses support from healthcare institutions and the accessibility of palliative care services. At the community level, perceived community support and cultural attitudes toward death played a role. Finally,at the policy level, the presence of palliative care policies and the payment modes of palliative service costs were influential. Conclusion Death lit-eracy among adults is shaped by a complex interplay of factors.Future research should further examine interactions among these influencing factors.
