Manual shock therapy for knee osteoarthritis:A clinical study and its impact on inflammatory response

Abstract：Objective To investigate the efficacy of manual shock therapy in treating patients with knee osteoarthritis and its effects on serum inflammatory responses.Methods Sixty eligible knee osteoarthritis patients were randomly divided into a control group with conventional rehabilitation therapy(n=30)and an observation group with additional manual shock thera-py(n=30).Both groups underwent two treatment courses.Pain Visual Analogue Scale(VAS)scores and Lequesne Index scores were evaluated before treatment and after each course.Serum inflammatory markers—high-sensitivity C-reactive pro-tein(hs-CRP),interleukin-1(IL-1),interleukin-6(IL-6),and tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α)—were measured before treatment and after the second course.Adverse reactions were monitored,and therapeutic efficacy was compared.Results VAS scores in both groups significantly decreased after the first and second treatment courses compared to baseline(P<0.05).Post-second-course scores were lower than post-first-course scores(P<0.05),with the observation group showing greater improvement than the control group(P<0.05).Lequesne Index scores followed the same trend as VAS scores,with the observation group outperforming the control group(P<0.05).Serum hs-CRP,IL-1,IL-6,and TNF-α levels sig-nificantly decreased after the second course in both groups,with the observation group achieving lower levels(P<0.05).The observation group exhibited superior clinical efficacy compared to the control group(P<0.05).No adverse events oc-curred during treatment.Conclusion Manual shock therapy effectively alleviates pain,improves knee joint function,and re-duces serum inflammatory cytokine levels in knee osteoarthritis patients,demonstrating its value for clinical application.
