Effects of Baduanjin combined with Renshen Sini Decoction on pulmonary function and diaphragmatic function in elderly COPD patients

Abstract：Objective To analyze the effects of Baduanjin combined with Renshen Sini Decoction on pulmonary and diaphrag-matic function in elderly patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD).Methods A total of 90 elderly pa-tients with moderate-to-severe COPD admitted to the Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine between Sep-tember 2021 and September 2022 were enrolled and randomly divided into three groups:a control group(n=30),a Baduan-jin treatment group(n=30),and a combined treatment group(n=30).The control group received conventional therapy,the Baduanjin treatment group received Baduanjin intervention in addition to conventional therapy,and the combined treat-ment group received Baduanjin combined with Renshen Sini Decoction.After 3 months of treatment,pulmonary function,diaphragmatic function,6-minute walk distance(6MWD),blood gas parameters,symptom scores,TCM syndrome inte-grals,and quality of life were evaluated.Results The combined treatment group exhibited superior outcomes in forced ex-piratory volume in 1 second(FEV1),forced vital capacity(FVC),FEV1/FVC ratio,FEV1%predicted,diaphragmatic mobility,diaphragmatic thickness,diaphragmatic thickening fraction,pH value,partial pressure of oxygen(PO2),partial pressure of carbon dioxide(PCO2),oxygen saturation(SaO2),symptom scores,TCM syndrome scores,CAT scores,and 6MWD compared to the control and Baduanjin groups(P<0.05).Conclusion Baduanjin combined with Renshen Sini Decoc-tion demonstrates significant value in improving pulmonary and diaphragmatic function in elderly COPD patients.This treatment not only enhances physiological function but also improves quality of life,making it a promising clinical intervention.
