The effect of bright light therapy on depression symptoms and sleep in adolescent depression disorder patients

Abstract:Objective To investigate the effects of conventional antidepressant drugs combined with bright light therapy on depression symptoms and sleep in adolescent depression disorder patients.Methods A total of 60 adolescent depression dis-order patients treated at Suzhou Guangji Hospital from January 2022 to December 2023 were selected for the study.They were randomly assigned to either the control group or the observation group,with 30 patients in each group.Both groups received conventional antidepressant treatment,with the control group receiving weak light therapy and the observation group receiving bright light therapy.The treatment effects between the two groups were compared.Results Before the in-tervention,there was no significant difference in the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale(HAMD)scores between the two groups(P>0.05).After the intervention,the HAMD score of the observation group was significantly lower than that of the control group(P<0.05).Before the intervention,there was no significant difference in the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality In-dex(PSQI)scores between the two groups(P>0.05).After the intervention,the PSQI score of the observation group was significantly lower than that of the control group(P<0.05).The overall nursing satisfaction rate in the observation group was 96.67%,higher than the 73.33%in the control group,with a significant difference(P<0.05).Conclusion In the treatment of adolescent depression disorder patients,the use of bright light therapy can significantly improve depression symptoms and sleep quality,indicating high application and promotion value.
