Abstract:Objective This study examines the correlation between body mass index(BMI)and common chronic diseases(hypertension, hyperglycemia, and hyperlipidemia)in rural elderly people to provide evidence for targeted health interven-tions.Methods Physical examination data of residents aged 65 and older from a village in Wujiang District,Suzhou, was collected and analyzed for correlations between BMI,blood pressure, blood glucose, and blood lipid levels across different genders and age groups. Results Among 414 participants,36.23%were overweight or obese. The detection rates for hy-pertension,hyperglycemia,and hyperlipidemia were 75.12%,19.32%,and 44.20%,respectively,with a 44.69%rate of multimorbidity.Females were more prone to overweight/obesity than males, and the 65-70 age group is more prone to o-verweight/obesity,and the differences are statistically significant(P<0.05).Females had higher hypertension and hyper-lipidemia rates(53.38%and 65.03%)than males(P<0.05).Overweight/obesity was significantly linked to hyperlipi-demia(P<0.001).All three conditions showed higher pulse rates(P<0.05).Females(OR=1.91),overweight(OR=2.08),and obese(OR=6.75)individuals had higher multimorbidity risks. Conclusion The high overweight/obesity rates in this rural population are significantly correlated with hypertension, hyperglycemia, and hyperlipidemia.Enhanced health interventions for overweight/obese elderly individuals are crucial for chronic disease prevention and control.
