Abstract:Objective To investigate the current levels of sense of coherence, job burnout, and health-promoting lifestyle a-mong psychiatric nurses, and to explore the mediating role of sense of coherence in the relationship between job burnout and health-promoting lifestyle. Methods A convenience sampling of 180 psychiatric nurses was surveyed using the General Informa-tion Questionnaire,Job Burnout Scale,Sense of Coherence Scale, and Health-promoting Lifestyle Scale. Results Psychiatric nurses had relatively high levels of burnout and low scores in exercise.Sense of coherence was positively correlated with health-promoting lifestyle(r=0.157-0.358,P<0.05).Work cynicism was negatively correlated with the sense of coherence(r=-0.253-0.349,P<0.01)and health-promoting lifestyle(r=-0.120-0.261,P<0.01).Job burnout significantly negatively affected the sense of coherence(path coefficient=-0.100,estimate=-0.303,P<0.05),which in turn positively influenced health-pro-moting lifestyle(path coefficient=0.340,estimate=0.144,P<0.001).Conclusion Sense of coherence mediates the relationship between job burnout and health-promoting lifestyle among psychiatric nurses.Job burnout negatively impacts health-promoting lifes-tyle through reduced sense of coherence.
