Abstract:Acute-on-chronic liver failure(ACLF)is a type of end-stage liver disease characterized by complex etiology and high mortality, with an extremely poor prognosis.Accurate assessment of adverse outcomes is crucial for improving the clinical outcomes of patients.ACLF patients often experience varying degrees of malnutrition due to metabolic disturbances of nutrients. The metabolism of glucose, amino acids, and lipids plays a regulatory role in skeletal muscle, and skeletal muscle abnormalities(such as sarcopenia and myosteatosis)are important manifestations of malnutrition associated with ACLF.However, the exact relationship between these abnormalities and the prognosis of ACLF remains unclear. This arti-cle reviews the latest research on the role of skeletal muscle changes in the prognostic evaluation of ACLF,aiming to provide clinical guidance for early risk stratification and treatment.
