Abstract:Objective To investigate the epidemiological trends of overweight/obesity and its relationship with dietary patterns among primary and secondary school students in Nan'an District,Chongqing, from 2019 to 2023.Methods A census method was used to measure height, body weight, and other indicators of 464 545 students in Nan'an District,Chongqing, from 2019 to 2023.In 2023,a stratified cluster sampling method was employed to select 720 students for a dietary questionnaire survey.Overweight and obesity rates were calculated by age and gender.Factor analysis was adopted to extract dietary patterns among secondary school students, and logistic regression was performed to analyze the relationship between dietary patterns and the risk of overweight/obesity.Results From 2019 to 2023,the overall overweight rates among primary and secondary school students in Nan'an District were 16.37%,16.53%,18.11%,and 17.17%,respectively,while the overall obesity rates were 10.82%,9.15%,11.49%,and 12.05%,respectively.From 2019 to 2023,the overall overweight detection rates in both boys and girls showed an upward trend(P<0.05),with the highest rates observed in boys(20.09%)and girls(15.97%)during 2021-2022.Similarly,the obesity detection rates in both boys and girls also demonstrated an overall upward trend(P<0.05),with the highest rates in boys(15.87%)during 2022-2023 and in girls(7.96%)during 2021-2022.Three dietary patterns were identified among secondary school students in Nan'an District:traditional dietary pat-tern,nutritionally balanced pattern, and dairy-based dietary pattern.Logistic regression analysis showed that, after adjusting for con-founding factors, the risk of overweight/obesity increased with higher pattern scores(medium-low score group:OR=1.71,95%CI:1.07-2.74,P=0.025;high-score group:OR=1.68,95%CI:1.04-2.73,P=0.035)as compared with the low-score group of the traditional dietary pattern. Conclusion The detection rates of overweight/obesity among primary and secondary school students in Nan'an District showed an overall upward trend from 2019 to 2023.The traditional dietary pattern was associated with an increased risk of overweight/obesity.In the future, nutritional health education for students should be strengthened, and dietary behaviors should be guided more effectively.
